Saat Uchakkey – movie review

Rating: ***
A comedy caper about 7 scoundrels pursuing their ulterior motive amid saving their skin from the local cop’s hawk eyes.
It appears as a realistic story of these petty crooks blundering their way through an exciting gamut of mystery, greed, treachery and running into one riotouscrisis after another.
It hilariously illustrates the predicament of Pappi Jaatwala (Manoj Bajpayee) who chances upon a prophecy made by a mystic tramp Bichchi (Annu Kapoor). He is turning 40 and now this good-for-nothing daydreamer has been given a deadline by his girl friend Sona (Aditi Sharma) whilst he appears to lose grip on reality, bent on believing someday very soon, he would stumble upon a hefty windfall.
His girl friend Sona is skilled at the intricate art of manipulating any person for her benefit with fish apenty in the big wide sea. She does so with charm and ease. Read more at: http://www.filmytown.com/movies/saat-uchakkey-movie-review/

Prem Ratan Dhan Payo – Movie review

Rating: ***

Set on a lavish canvas about Royals residing in palaces and forts, this film directed by Sooraj R. Barjatya is strewed with goody characters preaching ethical ways of living a goody life.

The family drama is about a dreamy world set in the era of Kingdoms and consisting of obedient sons, ‘agyakari’ women where Yuvraj Vijay Singh (Salman Khan) a prince of Pritampur, who is soon to be crowned as king and is engaged to princess Maithili (Sonam Kapoor). Does this awaken memories of Shammi Kapoor’s ‘Prince’ or the much later Anil Kapoor’s ‘Rajkumar’ and dozens of ficticious Raj Gharana Bollywood films.

It seems doubtful if this concept would work in the present times of fast paced lives of people who manage to be in touch with their own families with difficulties.

Bollywood film review

Rating: **

Pulkit Samrat and Bilal Amrohi are television journalists whose show is on a decline in popularity. They are warned by their female boss that they could lose their jobs until they come up with something sensational, expose story of a scam or something.

They share an apartment and move around in an old model Fiat car, supposedly a lucky charm as they bought it from a successful personality. The premise of O Teri is lifted from yesteryear classic, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, yet it is miles way on its entertainment value.

Gang of Ghosts - Hindi film Review

Rating: **

A haunted mansion in Mumbai is to be demolished making way for a glitzy shopping mall. The gang of harmless Ghosts of different eras and social spheres residing in this house are to be dislocated.

A remake of the commercially successful Bengali film Bhooter Bhabishyat, Gang of Ghosts comes up as mish-mashed comedy with sub-plots and undesirable buffoonery.

Some of these dilapidated disputed buildings were haunted by Ghosts who had taken shelter there over centuries. They were evicted and are homeless today. There is no rehabilitation package on offer. Politicians, media, intellectuals, civic society- no one gives a dam to them. After all, Ghosts can’t vote.

Royal Mansion is one such heritage property which is rented out for film shoots to facilitate its maintenance. A heroine faints during a shooting allegedly sighting Ghost in a mirror. A filmmaker on a reconnaissance trip to the building gets to hear of a spooky story revolving around the house.

Total Siyapaa - Film Review

Disappointing

Rating - **

Asha (Yami Gautam) is of Indian origin and Aman (Ali Zafar) is a Pakistani national, both are residents in the United Kingdom.

Aman visits the girls parents’ house to seek their permission. On the day when he is supposed to meet Asha’s parents, an unfortunate incident occurs as due to some misunderstanding he is mistaken as a terrorist and goes through the strip-search by the cops.

He is let off at the station, and is in lowest of his spirits and wants to postpone his meeting with the girl’s parents for some other day. However Asha is insistent that he finish the task on that day itself, and despite his hesitation, they head for the girls parents house.

Marketed as a rib-tickling rom-com as marketed in its trailers, the film disappoints as the supposedly funny instances just fall flat. The film is far from being a funny film with chaotic and outrageous situations.

I went shopping for Robert De Niro -Anupam Kher’s maiden directorial venture

Anupam Kher announces his next directorial venture; I Went Shopping For Robert De Niro, a 29 minute short film, in honour of his Oscar Nominated Silver Linings Playbook co star. He has also produced the film under his banner Actor Prepares Mumbai, named after his acting school.

“I have been wanting to direct a film for the past one year. When I came back from the USA after completing Silver Lining’s Playbook, Yamini, the writer of the short film, narrated the concept to me and I thought it is a wonderful story and I wanted to tell it. I decided to direct and produce it.” says Kher who is currently riding high on the success of Special 26.
Everyone from the cast and crew is a huge fan of Robert De Niro and has worked with gritty passion to pay their respects to the star. I went Shopping for Robert De Niro is a story of two girls at the crossroads of their lives and what happens to them on that particular day when they go shopping for Robert De Niro. Yamini Kshirsagar and Rimal Arora play the lead roles in the film.
They are also the girls who actually went shopping for the gift for De Niro before Kher travelled to Philadelphia for the shooting of Silver Linings Playbook, making the film part autobiography and part fiction.

Anupam Kher says, “With this film we tell the story of millions of people who come to the city of Mumbai to fulfil their dreams. It reminded me of the days of my life when I shifted to Mumbai to pursue my career as an actor. Similarly Silver Linings Playbook reminded me of the excitement I experienced when I signed my first film ever and I went shopping for Robert De Niro reminded me of my first days in Mumbai.
Nostalgia drove me to be a part of both these stories. In one sense going to celebrate Silver Linings Playbook at the Oscars brings this entire journey as full circle for me as being a part of the project gave birth to the short film”
