Koyelaanchal – Film Review

An upright officer confronts the powerful mafia in the coal belt

Rating: ***

A film based on the coal mafia of Rajapur in Uttaranchal, directed by Asshu Trikha.
If coal is an important fuel of our Industrial development, Koyelaanchal (coal belt of India) brings to light the explosive story of the people who have kept our precious fuel station at ransom for centuries. Calling these people coal mafia would be an understatement.
The film depicts the trials and tribulations of the poor innocent people living in the remote village of Rajapur and the atrocities inflicted upon them by Saryubhan Singh played by Vinod Khanna and his gang spearheaded by Karua played by Vippinno.

Purva Parag: Another NSDian woos Bollywood

Time and again actors out of National School of Drama (NSD) have left a lasting impact in Bollywood. Even the likes of Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Kapur, Seema Biswas among plenty others still continue to deliver incredible performances. And after doing many films including the recent one Hasee Toh Phasee, Purva is all set to woo the audience and industry with her performance in the hard-hitting film Koyelaanchal.

Having started off with controversial films like Ghafla, Sonia Sonia (a film based on Sonia Gandhi which ruffled many feathers and ultimately couldn’t see the light of the day), Purva took a four year sabbatical.

But now the actress is back with a bang and after doing lead role in TV Show Rakshak, National award winning Gujarati film Saptapadi and playing Siddharth Malhotra’s bhabhi’s part in Hasee Toh Phasee, the true-blue NSDian will be seen playing Suneil Shetty’s wife in Koyelaanchal.

“It’s been a great pleasure sharing screenspace with Suneil Shetty. I am the much needed sublime respite in the dark, hard-hitting film that Koyelaanchal is. It is a strong character where I am the backbone or the inner strength of the police officer played by Suneil ji.”

Talking about her journey in the film industry so far Purva says, “I started off with controversial films but now I want to do movies that see the light of the day and not just ruffle feathers. I am glad that now I am getting projects where I am showcase my acting chops. After Koyelaanchal I have some really interesting projects so the audience is going to see the hardcore NSDian in full form very soon.”

Well, her confidence speaks volumes and we can’t wait to see more of her too.
