Saala Khadoos – movie review

Saala Khadoos – movie review

Rating: ***

R Madhavan plays a failed, disheartened retired boxer who now, is a coach of women’s boxing for the Indian Boxing Federation. Being true to his profession and the country, this nutty coach has the uncanny ability to spot budding talent.
He comes up with a convincing and extremely realistic performance of a true and honest coach who puts all his efforts, time (and money) in nuturing raw talent.
Being a true boxing coach, he cannot accept anything mediocre in his budding women boxers. Nothing less.

Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 – movie review (Adult Comedy)

India's first Porn-com

While the first two films, Kyaa Kool Hai Hum (2005) & Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum (2012) were trend-setters, Kya Kool Hain Hum 3 - the third installment of Kya Kool Hai Hum series disappoints.

Claimed as India’s first porn-com, the 3rd part has the least of genuine comedy content, and as regards the erotica – it has the lowest level of cheap gestures which can hardly ‘arouse’ interest among just out of college gals and guys.

The story revolves around two money-hungry friends, Kanhaiya and Rocky, who get trapped in the international adult film industry.

The 33 bravehearts of the brotherhood

It is a true story about 33 miners who were trapped, lets say buried alive by the catastrophic collapse of a 100-year-old gold and copper unstable mine for 68 days in San José Chile.
Though a true story and based on the novel ‘Deep Down Dark’ by Héctor Tobar has a beautifully crafted narrative.
The 33 was filmed on location in Chile’s harshly remote yet breathtakingly beautiful Atacama desert just kilometers away from where the event took place, and deep within two mines located in central Colombia.
It opens with the miners a motley crew of family men, drunks and happy go lucky men celebrate the retirement of their loved old colleague.

While initially the ace music composers Sajid - Wajid had recorded the song with the girl singing ' oh boy, I am your soft toy', Ekta on hearing this insisted the song be re-recorded for the bombshell Mandana to instead address the boys Tusshar and Aftab as 'her' soft toys.

2016 belongs to Sports Based Films

2016 will see a slew of sports-based stories on the big screen.

Salman Khan will be seen wrestling and trying out mixed martial arts in director Ali Abbas Zafar’s Sultan.

Aamir Khan will play ex-wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat in director Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal, which is based on the struggles Phogat had to face to train his daughters in wrestling.

Also, cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s life will be brought to the silver screen by Sushant Singh Rajput, in director Neeraj Pandey’s biopic on the ODI Indian skipper.

On the other hand, R Madhavan stars in Saala Khadoos (SK), a sports drama revolving around boxing.

“Earlier, film-makers usually made movies that were considered safe, like love stories, action films, etc. Also, most of the sports-based films that were attempted in the earlier decades didn’t do well, so no one ventured into that territory for many years. Now is a good time as far as the variety in plots is concerned, because film-makers are trying different kinds of stories. I’m glad that more sports films are now being made in India,” says film-maker Rajkumar Hirani, who has produced SK. He adds, “Sports films are usually about the triumph of an underdog, and they make you feel good. Such movies are happy films.”
