Chapekar Brothers - Movie Review

This movie brings alive the life and times of the revolutionaries who were proud of laying down their lives, fighting against the tyranny of the British rule.

It was sometime in 1896 that the seeds of the revolution were laid in the city of Pune, the land of Peshwas and the establishment of KESARI – the newspaper headed by Lokmanya Balgangadhar Tilak bringing a change in the mindset of people. To awake, arise and fight against injustice.

Giriva Productions’ Chapekar Brothers is a part of the history, which touches the period of the late 19th Century when Plague was prevalent amongst the inhabitants of Pune city. Agreed, that the root cause of plague is unhygienic conditions which were manmade, but instead of finding a solution or providing medical relief to the citizens of Pune, the arrogant British Commissioner W. C. Rand ordered the complete family members to evict the city in the case of any death arising due to plague in the family.

Rajsaheb has the qualities of Chapekar Brothers – Dhiraj Mishra

Frank and outspoken MNS President Raj Thackeray who slammed the Censor Board Chief Pahlaj Nihalani has the qualities of Chapekar Brothers who revolted against the British. They were one of the pioneers of freedom struggle which bore fruits after several years later. Dhiraj Mishra, the Screenplay and Dialogues Writer of ‘Chapekar Brothers’ remarked, “Raj Thackrey has similar ideologies and qualities of the Chapekar Brothers”, while felicitating him at his residence in Dadar, Mumbai. ‘Chapekar Brothers’ the hindi film features Abhijit Bhagat, Sanjeet Dhuri and Manoj Bhatt who play the Chapekar brothers, Indian revolutionaries involved in the 1896 assassination of the British Plague Commissioner of Pune, W C Rand. This film has been in the news for the diktat from the Censor Board over a film scene. Post that incident, MNS President Raj Thackeray has pledged his full support to the movie by felicitating the family members belonging to the martyr Chapekar Brothers. The MNS Chief paid his tributes to the immortal freedom fighters by presenting a memento to today’s generation of Chapekar family. Govind Namdeo to play Tilak in Chapekar Brothers

Acclaimed actor Govind Namdeo replaces veteran actor Om Puri

Upcoming film Chapekar Brothers has a new actor on board. Govind Namdeo has stepped in and will now be seen as the powerful Bal Gangadhar Tilak. This role was earlier to be played by veteran actor Om Puri.

It was a mutual decision to sign Govind Namdeo due to Om Puri’s hectic schedule.

Govind Namdeo seems to be very excited about his role, though it’s a special appearance, “The team has done detailed research on Chapekar Brothers who are the unsung heroes of India. I am very impressed with their dedication and was convinced to play the iconic role of Bal Gangadhar Tilak.” Abhijit Bhagat, Sanjhit Dhuri and Manoj Bhatt will be seen in the roles of Chapekar Brothers.

The film is directed by Devender Pandey . Written by Dhiraj Mishra and produced by Ghanshyam Patel of Giriva Productions, Chapekar Brothers will release at the end of this year.
