Miss Tanakpur Haazir Ho – Hindi Movie Review

It happens only in India

Rating: **

A political satire loosely based on a real event in Rajasthan, in which a high court sentenced a boy to jail for allegedly raping a buffalo.
Debutant Director Vinod Kapri’s film is set somewhere in Haryana instead, and thats the reason that the film has a mix of Hindi and Haryanvi dialogues.
The film opens on a colorful beginning, in a rustic ‘mela’ (village fair) with surprises all around. A pundit claiming to bring a Goddess to life in the form of a young girl sitting on a chair in a static blessing posture.

The villagers seem to be convinced. Other attractions include, apart from the stand giant wheels, merry-go-round, a sensuous item song “Naach Basanti” and the a beauty competition of buffaloes.

Chal Bhaag – Hindi Movie Review

Rating: ***

A wannabe new age quickie about Delhi underbelly with all the ingredients, like larger than life Dons, corrupt to the core Police Personnel (it seems the department has become a favorite whipping boy of one and all including any Tom Dick and Harry).

The movie begins with the murder of an ex-MLA, then the director goes on to establish the three protagonists - Munna Supari (Deepak Dobriyal) is a road-side tapori (smarty), a petty thief Bunty (Tarun Bajaj) and the third Guy Daler Singh (Varun Mehra), an outcast, is a bit of a mystery to himself, shown as a hungry tiger.

The Delhi Police is under pressure, as per their reports the MLA was murdered by three shooters. The incident coincides with the arresting of Munna, Bunty and Daler for their small time crimes.

Bhoothnath Returns – Film Review

Rating: ***

The friendly ghost is out to set things right in this country

A sequel to 2008 film Bhoothnath, features Amitabh Bachchan as Bhoothnath, the ghost who is mocked by everyone when he enters the Bhoothworld. He is questioned about his abilities as a ghost as he could not even scare a child when he was on earth.

Humiliated and tired of the mockery in the Bhoothworld, Bhoothnath requests the incharge of that world to give him one more chance to come to earth as a ghost and he promises that he would be successful in scaring some children, and clear out the mockery he faces in the ghost world.

After persuasion, he gets a chance to complete his unfinished task as a ghost and so Bhoothnath comes to earth again. This time he lands in Dharavi area, a slum in Mumbai. Unfortunately for him, a boy – Akhrot (Parth Bhalerao) can see him, not the other kids. No one around, not even Akhrot’s mother (Usha Jadhav) can see Bhoothnath.

Bhoothnath returns is fascinating, breezy, captivating and full of pleasurable moments in the first half. Post interval the film is loaded with heavy fundas such as how an eligible politician is to be elected, sermons on governance and the style of living. The message is well-intentioned, however it turns serious with grim turn of events in the latter half. The fun and comedy of the initial part are lacking in the second half.

Ankhon Dekhi – Film Review

 Rating: ****

It is a story of a man who begins to think philosophically and feels within himself the reality of life of seeing and believing in those things which normally an average man wouldn’t think of treading into finding realisim in several ‘minute’ issues like hearing the roar of a tiger, flying like a bird…

This film gives the feel of Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee’s films, widely appreciated by the audiences.

Ankhon Dekhi is a genuinely entertaining film minus the item numbers, flashy locations and other typical bollywood films released of late.

About the performances, Sanjay Mishra as the protagonist, is subdued and puts up a great show. Rajat Kapoor as his younger brother is natural, almost like a character in real life.

A fine film with a simple story, which touches your heart and makes you smile.
