Manoj Maurya makes Blind ‘See’ paintings at ReBORN Painting Exhibition

Mumbai, June 16, 2014:  In a first of its kind initiative towards making art accessible for masses, Manoj Maurya invited blind students from the city blind schools and made them ‘see’ the paintings. Manoj described and discussed paintings with blind students and also took an interactive workshop where he taught them how to create paintings. Manoj Maurya made a painting with the blind students which he later gifted to the students. The evening brought immense joy to the painter and he exclaimed, “I want to make even blind capable for expressing their thoughts through the medium of visual arts and paintings. The reactions and questions that these students asked me on my paintings were as insightful as those asked by art connoisseurs. After understanding ReBORN series, one student asked me what I think is the color of soul? Another asked me the color of birth & death?. They grasped my paintings and the thought behind them".

He added, "I thoroughly enjoyed the journey of ReBORN with them. Another Blind student expressed his heartiest gratitude to Manoj and thanked him for making him see the colors for the first time in his life."

ReBORN Painting Exhibition by Manoj Maurya established a missing connect between art and general masses. Manoj felt that paintings as form of art should increase its reach and be more relevant and productive for the society. During the exhibition he had invited underprivileged kids and taught them finer nuances of paintings. He invited autorickshaw drivers to explore and understand the importance of art. While helping them acknowledge their creative potential, Manoj felt educating autorickshaw drivers about art would go a long way in keeping city clean and beautiful.

About paintings:

Manoj Maurya's paintings are highly thought centric, contemporary and introspective. They interact with you, provoke thought, action and intellect. He is a strong proponent for constructive art. An art that has the potential to influence the contemporary times with its journey, is constructive in true sense. Subjects often seen in his paintings include spirituality, philosophy, mysticism, social issues, current affairs, women and nature.

Performing arts with visual arts- experiment

The artist has explored a unique experiment with his painting, merging visual art with performing art. It started with painting on the canvass of a play in progress, Andha Yug at Prithvi theatre. The sound and light effects with the dialogues and expressions emoted by the actors acted as a germ of inspiration and Manoj filled his empty canvass with vibrant hues of a spiritual painting with a contemporary social relevance. In a similar fashion sometimes on a backdrop of live musical performance, plays and dance dramas Manoj has expressed his versatile thinking on virgin canvass.
At Prithvi theatre he created as painting on the Subconscious journey of Krishna, Gandhari and Arjun and its contemporary relevance with the back drop of the play Andha Yug (A slice from Mahabharat). Similarly with te backdrop of a Hindi Play by Faiz Ahmed Faiz he produced a hard hitting painting on Hunger Politics and Common Man

India ReBorn- from an Artists view

Manoj Muarya’s ReBorn will see a timely launch. Just as the country has cohesively decided its fate by turning the government in an effort towards a fresh beginning, artist Manoj Maurya has also unleashed his creative work that addresses the need for a fresh beginning. It may seem as a coincidence by the artist believes that at the crux of this change of government lies a very strong spiritual metamorphosis of an entire nation that has manifested itself in the general election. Just as his own experience of destruction led to a sapling of thought and an upsurge of creative expression, India too has experienced a need for ReBorn.
