An amazing ‘other world’ experience. Absolutely stunning.

By Paresh B. Mehta

Genre: Horror   Recommended: Parental Guidance   Released: 22 September 2017
Starring: Kunaal Roy Kapur, Ananya Sengupta, Archana Shastry, Elena Kazan, Reyhna Malhotra, Scarlett Wilson
Directed by: Directed by Dhwanil Mehta

The existence of the ‘other world’ has been a subject of debate between the skeptics and the believers. The Final EXIT directed by Dhwanil Mehta explores this particular aspect and appears convincing to a great extent.

It is generally believed that the ‘other dimension’ or ‘other world’ always exists in our life. Made by a debutante director this film depicts layers of emotions of the characters. The audience will actually sense it throughout the film. This makes the viewer actually feel involved with the characters.

The subject of other dimension has been taken in several Hollywood films but it is for the first time that a Bollywood film delves into this complex issue. Almost every body, knowingly or unknowingly has experienced it, be in his sleep or during closed eyes or while in a trance or a state of unconsciousness and then finally at the end of one’s life. What is the story about?

In the first turning point of the movie, He beats 3 goons who teased his beloved Piya. Later it is revealed that all the goons are Boxing champions. the story of a Boxer who fights for his nation and his IDENTITY….
But that is a generalized statement. Could you explain more in detail?
Victory is always possible for the person who refuses to stop fighting… The movie depicts how Victor, an Indian Boxer gets trapped into the dark side of the boxing sports, loses everything… He cries & shed tears for a moment, then gets up
and fights again because he knows that the difference between Success and failure is not giving up… He is the real FIGHTER.
How does Victor land up in the boxing ring?
Once He fights with 3 ROWDIES and easily beat them all.. Later it transpires that they are not Normal Street Goons but Famous Boxing Champions.. This triggers an Idea in Cop that Victor should become a BOXER since he has so much strength. He is motivated by the Cop’s proposal as he feels that by doing so his Life will get the sense of purpose… He practices hard with
full dedication and determination to become a Boxing champion.
You play a boxer in the film. Can you talk something about the preps?

PINK - Hindi movie review

Can’t a working girl have a drink and dinner with her friends? What about those girls who stay independently, have a career and once in a while indulge in partying with their friends?
Surely, there is a drift towards the thinking of society towards independent minded girls. It is evident in the metros. Yet, a section of the feudal society still labels them as ‘characterless girls’.
Shoojit Sircar’s PINK, a social thriller film depicts the story of three girls who share an apartment in Delhi. They are career minded professionals, the modern age females.
National Award winning director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury narrates the story of three Delhi-based girls, and a yesteryear’s’ big league lawyer, and how their paths cross. The film also explores the dubious morals of today’s times.

If one goes by Aditya’s new avatar for ‘Fitoor’, one can surely start believing that, flaunting six- or eight-pack abs for a film have become passe .
Aditya Roy Kapur has taken a different route to showcase a well-toned physique in his next- ‘Fitoor’. He has opted for body sculpting.
“Aditya has always had an athletic physique, but for ‘Fitoor’, that stars Katrina Kaif — he decided to take up body sculpting to develop a completely different look from what has been seen of him before,” says a source.
Body sculpting or core conditioning is a non-aerobic, muscle-toning regimen that usually focuses on one’s core strength. “It is a technique that is used to shape the muscles in one’s body to perfection without bulking it up in any way,” adds the source.

BUMPER DRAW - Hindi Movie review

Rating:  *** 1/2

A hilarious film centered around two pivotal characters – Farooque a cabbie & William the conman. A third funny character Sunderlal (a villager) who comes to Mumbai in search of a job gets involved with them in a strange situation.
This comedy drama has been shot in real locations in all over Mumbai which features Mahim slums and the Bhindi Bazaar in South Mumbai.
The film begins with an old Parsi Man Pestonji who narrates his tale to a Television Channel, the adventure which begin with Farooque’s taxi accidentally knocking off the old Parsi gentleman. The burden of getting him treated with First-Aid falls on them else, the crowd would run riot with the cab driver as usually it happens in Mumbai.
Twist in the story appears when the doctor realises that the injured old Parsi man is missing and there is a reward of Rupees 50 lakhs to anyone who brings him back to his house. This is the BUMPER DRAW (PRIZE).
Superlative performances from Rajpal Yadav, Subrat Dutta and Zakir Hussain. It is this trio that acts as a tripod stand making the film stand out from other ordinary comedy fares in the filmy town.
An extra Half Star for the performances.

JAATIWAD – Hindi movie review

Rating: **

JAATIWAD does deliver a strong message about how our legal system time and again fails to deliver justice on time. It is an action-drama film with a message to end the communal rivalries.
“JAATIWAD” which means Casteism is the centre of the story of this film which is about two groups in the College elections, which are backed by respective Political parties.
These wily politicians breed the new generation of Politicians right from their college years. This brings fresh force for them at a great bargain. A new set of party workers, who are more aggressive and obedient towards their seniors. The motive behind this is to manipulate these youngsters for their political gains.
Director Sabir Shaikh and Producer Anand Kumar Gupta have managed to get a solid supporting cast for JAATIWAD high on drama with really over the top dialogues.
First half of JAATIWAD is stands a tense, dark, toxic & humorous entertainment performance and the second half with climax that has excessive violence. But this is a fact, that still exists in the hinterlands of our country.

BADLAPUR - Hindi movie review

Rating: ****

BADLAPUR - Hindi movie review

A dark thriller with its unique story telling approach gathering momentum with its pace, magnificent camera work and superlative performances from Varun Dhawan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Huma Qureshi.

Yet another spine-chiller from Sriram Raghavan who earlier made a notable revenge drama – Ek Hasina Thi (2004) and an out-and-out thriller – Johnny Gaddaar (2007). Badlapur doesn’t preach, has no message, it is just a plain thriller which has an unpredictable ending.

PK - Hindi movie review

Rating: ***

Its OMG! Oh My God revisited. PK is a satire on “God and godmen” with an unique narration, superb performances from the pivotal characters, yet is a lengthy film which stretches on the same issue of having called a ‘Wrong Number’ while seeking the almighty.

The Managers of God have been again exposed in this film where an alien (resembling human race) comes to earth on his mission to survey the life and times of the inhabitants of this planet.

PK is not a futuristic or a sci-fi film, it deals about the ordeals of the alien man who is clean hearted, doesn’t tell lies, doesn’t hurt anybody, has the ability to grasp the language within few hours of just holding hands of a human. Like the data being transferred from one hard disk to another. This person has the ability to adapt easily to the new surroundings.
